A Summer Solstice Cocktail: The Cucumber Lime Gritini

Happy Friday Gritties.

Check your calendar, it is undeniably summer; with that we are sending you off into the weekend with a refreshing pick-me-up to celebrate our favorite season. This tasty, cool concoction pleads for fun-in-the-sun, and also encourages us to consume some of summer’s most delicious produce.

Our in-house mixologist, Debbie Springer, concocted this cooling and hydrating cucumber and lime martini–the “Cucumber-Lime GRIT‘ini” to quench your thirst and revitalize your cocktail hour.

Low in calories and high in fiber, cucumbers are an excellent source of Vitamin K, Potassium, Magnesium, and Silicon which lend to radiant skin and vitality. Cucumbers also act as a giant flush for the system as they remove toxins and dissolve kidney stones.

This recipe is worth making just for the aroma alone created from the lime zest {your kitchen and olfactory senses will thank you.} Lime juice brims full of Vitamin C and the anti-oxidants found in lime peel {zest} is known to slow down the process of atherogenesis, the buildup of plaque on artery walls.

Another fragrant ingredient you’ll love having in your kitchen is mint; mint is one of the most anti-oxidant-rich leaves on the planet. In addition to boosting your digestion and calming your body {mint is a cooling herb; it literally cools the body down,} mint has strong cancer fighting properties.

Who doesn’t love an excuse to break out the martini shaker and channel their inner Don Draper {minus the narcissistic self-loathing part}?

The key to this recipe is fresh ingredients and cold {!} cold {!} cold ice and water.

Bottoms up Gritties!

How many of us prefer Gin or Vodka?

Please remember to drink responsibly, and to NEVER drink and drive.
