Meet Your Manager: Megan O’Rourke

We are jumping with enthusiasm for our newest family member down in Monarch Beach, studio manager Megan O’Rourke. Megan agreed to stop by the Outpost for a little meet & greet so we could get to know her and easily fall in love with her charming self.

Hi, Megan, thank you so much for making time for us at The Outpost, please tell us about yourself.

I am from Fresno, CA, born and raised.  My family lived in Libertyville, IL when I was in 8th grade through my sophomore year of high school but other than that it was all Fresno. I am the second of four kids and my family is extremely tightknit.  I have a passion for life and making people smile. Country music is my heart and soul although I love music in general and find it to be so powerful.

Coffee is a must for me and when I get a dog one day I want it to be a golden Australian Labradoodle named Tucker.

What brought you to Grit Cycle?

One of my best friends would always spin at Grit and constantly told me about how amazing it is and once I’ve gone Grit I haven’t gone back!

Do you remember your first class at Grit? What was that like?

My first class at Grit was with Kaitlin and I don’t necessarily remember that class specifically, however, every time I ride in her class she makes me feel something.  Whenever I step out of the saddle room from her class I always feel so motivated and inspired.

What is your favorite song to ride to and why?

I am a country music lover so whenever I am in Marisa’s class and she blasts some country I am instantly entranced.

What motivates you/inspires you?

I like stories of people who have overcome struggle.  It makes me feel like I can overcome whatever little struggle I may be going through.  I am really into motivational quotes that focus on accomplishing something that seems impossible.

What do you do when you’re not getting gritty?

You can catch me out on a run, going on a hike, hanging at the beach or at a family BBQ.  I love surrounding myself with positive outgoing people and I am always up for an adventure.

What’s your favorite “move” on the bike and why?

I love push to tap. I think it is my favorite because I remember one day in class finally getting the beat right and doing it correctly and I was so excited!!

What is your favorite food?

It has to be a tie between sweet potatoes and avocado.  I will eat either any day any time.

What song instantly gets you dancing?

Any Garth Brooks song will instantly get my excited/dancing. I grew up listening to him and his songs bring back so many amazing happy memories that will instantly put me in the best mood.

Do you have a secret talent?

I can wiggle my ears.

What was the last book you read?

Whole 30…trying to dabble in paleo again.

What was the first concert you went to?

John Mayer.

What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?

I have the biggest sweet tooth which can get me in trouble.  It doesn’t matter if it is chocolate, baked good or some kind of sour candy, I love it all.

When you’ve had a long day how do you de-stress?

I usually like to be by myself initially, go for a walk, lay on the couch and then I call my mom.

What is your favorite color?

Kelly Green {I am obsessed with being Irish, that is where it comes from.}

What is your favorite food/drink?

I love coffee!! And avocado toast.

What are three things always in your grocery cart?

Bananas, eggs, coconut milk

What’s the best piece of advice your parents ever gave you?

I was raised to treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO. Being kind and respectful will get you far and add hard work and you will be set.

What beauty products you can’t live without?

Tinted moisturizer and mascara

What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?

You don’t have to have it all figured out.  Work really hard, ask lots of questions and be open-minded to anything and everything.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I have more gray hair than people twice my age, so yes, I have to dye it regularly. It’s genetic and I am lucky enough to get it from both sides of the family.

Do you do any other forms of workouts?

I am training for my first marathon {which terrifies me so wish me luck!} so I have been running a lot but I also love HIIT workouts and have been getting into boxing.

Please make sure to introduce yourself to this fabulous girl next time you are in the Monarch Beach studio. Megan is eager to meet as many Gritties as possible.
