Top 3 Tips for Reducing the Risk of Breast (and Other) Cancers

As a breast cancer survivor, I know how important it is to make lifestyle changes that can reduce the risk of cancer. While no method can guarantee prevention, here are three simple changes that can help lower your risk:

 

 

Cut Back on Alcohol  

While a drink here and there is common, it’s important to know that alcohol can increase cancer risks, including breast cancer. Alcohol creates toxic chemicals, raises estrogen levels, and makes it harder for your body to absorb nutrients. To lower your risk, consider cutting out alcohol or limiting it as much as possible. Recent research shows that even moderate drinking isn’t as healthy as we once thought.

Avoid Processed Foods  

Processed foods have been linked to higher cancer risks, especially breast and ovarian cancers. They often contain harmful additives that can trigger inflammation and disrupt your body’s natural balance. Instead, aim to eat whole foods—like fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. These foods support your body and help protect it from cancer.

Move Every Day  

Exercise can lower your cancer risk by helping maintain a healthy weight, balancing hormones, and boosting your immune system. Even just 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week—like walking or yoga—can make a difference. The more active you are, the better for your overall health.

 

By making small changes like reducing alcohol, avoiding processed foods, and staying active, you can take steps toward lowering your cancer risk. Your health is worth it!
